Comparing the old elder's handbook to the new...
by undercover inas i've read through the new elder's book, something kept nagging at me about it.
then i went to compare one passage in the new book to the old and it hit me.
i've mentioned it on a couple of posts, but i wanted to start a thread on it.... what hit me was that the new book was like an instruction manual to supervisors in a plant.

The thing that really makes me angry is the fact that the poor shmuck who come before this "court" has no access to the legal rules that he is being judged by. There is no one to speak up for him, no one to help him avoid the bear traps.
The same people put the case for the prosecution and the case for the defence and are the judges. This all done with a greasy patronising smile just to show the lurve they are showing as they hang you out to dry.
Not that I have experienced this of course...........

Is there anything that could actually bring down this farce of a religion?
by stuckinamovement init seems as if they have survived it all.
bad press such as articles on molestations, neutrality, blood, defections of high ranking officials, crazy changes in doctrines, financial stresses, passage of a 100 years without one prophecy coming true.
yet they are still going strong with new members being recruited at a faster level than those who leave.

I think without doubt that the org is mistaken and deluded. I have however known Jack Barr and his wife Mildred for many years allthough I have not seen either one of them since about 1992. One side of me winces at the Paris Hilton remark, I actually think that Jack is sincere if somehow living in an unquestioning bubble. I still think he deserves some human kindness. My mother is just as immersed in self-delusion but at both their ages after so many years how can they face up to the waste of their lives.
When the tiny increases turn into small decreases, when the little one becomes 980, perhaps the cracks will appear. Look at the way the apparrent bastion of communism fell in 1989. Suddenly the faithful were looking bemused as the population surged through check point charlie and East and West held hands. Maybe thats what the future holds. Not a bang but a wimper and the last one out turning the lights off with a sigh.

Fried, poached, scrambled?

it's about 3:30 a.m., my usual hour up and writing.
eggs and onions are on the range, even as we speak.. i'm thinking of one of my favorite actresses, margaret rutherford, and her husband, stringer davis, who had the custom of a midnight repast of bacon and eggs.. do you down cackleberries with relish?

I believe the real reason the GB don't want you to go to University is not sex drugs and rock & roll. The real reason is that critical thinking is encouraged.
JWs are taught not to question, not to think any thing that they are not allowed to. Nothing is worth consideration unless written by the FDS. University says "prove me wrong but give me evidence, argue your case well".
That of course that is how knowledge progresses, people ask "Why"?, "How"?. Come back into the cong. with that enquiring mind and see what happens.
No, they can't afford the young to be given the gift of a questioning, curious mind.

We visited regularly and had dinner with the full-time servants there. Such happy visits made me decide that this was truly the kind of life I wanted. I then made Gilead School and missionary service my goal in life.
